The Social Business Consulting Group is a student run non-profit organization that provides pro bono consulting services to social entrepreneurs around the world. We connect college students with meaningful projects, enhance the impact of social ventures, and empower students to effect positive social change. Most colleges have programs to serve their immediate community, but the majority lack service organizations that help those that need it most—socially conscious organizations in developing countries. Social entrepreneurs in the world’s impoverished nations generally lack the time and money they need to implement an idea that has the potential to solve today’s most pressing problems. With the Social Business Consulting Group, social entrepreneurs can connect to the resources of universities and students, and enhance the likelihood that they will succeed in their efforts to change the world. Our organization has paired students with social entrepreneurs in eight countries. Working in teams of four to five, and under the guidance of a project manager, the students research and prepare a final report for the client. One team helped a microfinance institution in Senegal secure seed capital and designed a pilot program for a rural village. Another team helped a cooperative of artisans in Paraguay triple their exports. We have also successfully paired student teams with an educational non-profit in Ghana, a microfinance investment fund based in the United States, a water purification effort in Haiti, a group in Cameroon developing a curriculum for homeless children, a non-profit in India developing programs for urban migrants, and an umbrella development organization in Ecuador. Through the symbiotic relationships we maintain with our clients, we believe as students we can utilize our education to make a tangible difference.
