I can’t remember my first day as a news reporter. I’ll never forget the second one. It was 9/11/01. Like everyone else, I watched the Twin Towers tumble down in real time. I was in denial. Confused. Certainly scared. Nevertheless, I had a job to do. As a cub reporter I had to somehow put aside my own feelings and tell the story of this historic day through the lens of small-town New Hampshire. To capture the sadness, the fear, and, incredibly, the resolve. My job was to speak for those who had no voice at that moment. To this day I approach storytelling with the same respect and awe as I did on my second day as a reporter. My title has changed and will continue to. What hasn’t changed is my passion for getting to the heart of the story. To be the voice for others — to empower audiences with the information they need and want. That’s what marketing really comes down to – empowering audiences. It’s not about convincing or bribing them. It’s not about obsessing over the latest search engine algorithm. It’s about the people. Every strategy I design, every plan I execute, focuses on the people whose lives I can help improve. I’m inspired by brands that align with that perspective.
