At NBN, Ray is responsible for the technology evolution of a nationwide wholesale Fibre, Fibre to the Node, Fibre to the curb, HFC, Fixed Wireless Access, and Satellite network. NBN was established in 2009 to design, build and operate Australia’s new high-speed, wholesale local access broadband network. Underpinned by a purpose to connect Australia and bridge the digital divide, NBN’s key objective is to ensure all Australians have access to fast broadband as soon as possible, at affordable prices, and at least cost.Ray has over 30 years extensive experience in the telecommunications sector while based in various locations around the world including Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and the UK. Prior to NBN, Ray was the Managing Director of Nokia Oceania, managing a business of greater than 1 billion Australian Dollars in revenue and successfully incorporating the Alcatel-Lucent business in the region as an acquisition of Nokia Networks. Prior to Nokia, Ray worked at Motorola for 16 years in roles that included Head of Technology for Asia Pacific and President and General Director for Motorola Vietnam. Ray has held a board position with the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association, is an advisory board member for the University of Technology Sydney in addition to being a board member of the Connectivity Innovation Network.Ray is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Technology Sydney, holds a Bachelor of Engineering from King’s College London and a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Birmingham. Ray also holds 19 patents in telecommunications systems engineering and has a publication record that spans the last 20 years.
