About

As an aspiring historian, I will begin a MPhil course in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology at the University of Oxford in Fall 2016, after which I will pursue a doctoral degree. My career aspirations are to a work as a public historian and/or educator in a natural history museum, focusing primarily on the significance of evolution, bioethics, and technology. My research specialty is in the history of biological sciences (particularly evolutionary biology) and the interaction between scientific narratives and social issues. I have conducted quite a bit of research on early-to-late modern colonialism (most notably African colonialism, but I’ve also done research on South American colonialism) and colonial science. I’m very interested in public misunderstanding of science and the production of scientific ignorance, especially as it relates to the social constructions of gender and race.
