Revelation Door Inspections

Life safety through proper fire and smoke containment is a critical issue for Facility Managers and Health Care Facilities alike. Doors and hardware are essential elements demanding the utmost attention. Code compliance and insurance audits aside, properly operating fire and egress doors top the list of areas requiring constant maintenance and regular inspections.Building Owners: NFPA 80 contains specific requirements for the formal inspection of fire door assemblies to ensure that they are properly maintained throughout the life of their installation and will function properly under fire conditions. Under these provisions, fire door assemblies are required to be inspected on an annual cycle, and written documentation of these safety inspections is required to be kept on site for review by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Chap. 5 includes safety inspection requirements and the instructions and requirements for the removal, replacement, and repair of fire door assemblies. It also includes when formal inspections are to be performed such as upon completion of installation, when maintenance work is performed, acceptance testing as well as the annual periodic inspection and testing. Chap. 5 and Annex A identify who is to perform these inspections and written reports.
