About

Educational Background: Attended the University of Nebraska where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in microbiology and a minor in chemistry as well as a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in molecular biology. I have also attended specific courses at the University of Salt Lake, Iowa State University and Massachusetts Insitute of Technology covering buiness management, recombinant DNA technology and mechanisms for controlled release respectively. Experience: After recieving my Masters degree, I obtained a Reseacher position at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. My goal was to discover disease specific proteins pertaining to canine heart worm and degenerative myelopathy for the purpose of developing confirmatory assays. I utilized many analytical and immunological technologies to isolate and purify serum proteins specific to the filarial and adult stages of the heart worm and an 86kD protein associated with canines exhibiting degenerative myelopathy. After completion of the project, I was offered a position as a Senior Research Microbiologist with Fermenta Animal Health. At Fermenta Animal Health I gained experience developing vaccines for cattle and swine as well as developing potency release ELISA assays for viral and bacterial products. In addition, I helped develop a proprietary water in oil emulsion which was used in subsequently licensed vaccines. I continued my career at SmithKline Beecham Animal Health which was later acquired by Pfizer Inc. For most of the last 17 years my scientific efforts have focused on adjuvants, delivery technology and vaccine formulation. I have prepared polymeric microparticles, liposomes and enteric coated tablets. I have worked with numerous classes of adjuvants and have utilized animal models including mice and guinea pigs to evaluate formulation properties.
