Richard Busson

A guitar instructor for over 40 years, Dr. Rick Busson began teaching the guitar at age 17 at his own high school by invitation of the school's band director. Dr. Busson has worked as a music instructor at a number of private schools and colleges including Houston Music Institute, Corpus Christie Catholic School, Colorado State University, University of Northern Colorado, and Aims Community College. Rick has always pursued diversity in his career as a teacher as a performer. As a jazz guitarist he has performed with jazz ensembles at the University of Akron and University of Houston and worked with the Chuck Nolan Orchestra. Performances in the classical style include appearances with the Fort Collins Symphony and the Greely Philharmonic. Dr. Busson possesses a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron, a Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in classical guitar and a Doctorate of music in Music Theory and Composition at U N C. Rick also has experience instructing and performing Jazz, Latin Jazz, Flamenco, Rock, and Blues guitar styles. In addition to teaching guitar he has taught Music Theory, Ear Training & Sight Singing, Survey of World Music, History of Jazz, and Music Appreciation and directed jazz ensembles. Rick now spends most of his time composing, writing instructional method books, and teaching and performing within the community.
