I have worked in the video game industry for 15+ years. I attended Utah State University where I majored in Illustration. I started in the video game industry working for a game developer (Singletrac Entertainment) where I was employed as a Concept Artist/Illustrator. I created original concepts based on written descriptions and visual examples received from the art director’s game designers and the 3D art teams, for Playstation games. These included: characters, clothing, props, creatures, vehicles, weapons, environments, and effects. I began each with rough sketched comps to detailed sketches and when needed final full-color illustrations that were also at times used for marketing purposes. Styles varied from cartoony to comicbook to realistic, and in a variety of genre; e.g. Adventure, fantasy and science fiction. I started in the game industry working for a local studio (Singletrac Enter-tainment) as a Concept Artist/2D Artist working on character design, environment design, vehicle and weapon design. Also, working on designing Hud icons, environment textures and general look and feel of the games. Other duties included storyboards for in-game cinematics. I then moved on to a design studio (Origin Studios) where I worked with 3D artist teams and graphic designers on various marketing related projects and some in-game art like storyboards and character design. I would start with sketched comps all the way to finished color illustrations for videogame covers and various marketing materials such as, magazine ads, posters, shelf talkers, dummy boxes, and standees. Other duties included, logo design and updating other logos and editing previously existing art.
