Robert Krbavac

My career began in Hamilton at Cable 14. Hired as a master control op. I continued to work there as a segment producer and videographer. At this time I graduated TV broadcasting at Mohawk College. Hired by CBC Newsworld in 1998 to work as VTR operator, audio board operator and chyron op. I was part of a transition from BETA to a digital format. In 2000 CBC hired me in to Field operations as part newly minted Canada Now news program hosted by Carol MacNeil. We produced a nightly newscast live from neighborhoods in and around Toronto. In 2001 i was brought in as a Field Sound recordist for CBC Marketplace. Canada's longest running consumer show. Hosted by Jackie Perron, Jim Nunn with special reports from Erica Johnson. During this time I also worked for The National, Fifth Estate and Disclosure. I travelled much of Canada and the US sound recording interviews, sequences and news. In late 2002 as part of The National our team earned a Gemini nomination. The story was about a Canadian mans incredible story surviving the collapse of the World Trade Center. Later that year the CBC Documentary Unit sent me to the Netherlands and England to record sound for a doc about the threat of killer asteroids and how European Space Agency is preparing for such an event. During this time I began training as a Sat truck operator, giving our crews the ability to go live from Breaking News events, such as the collapse of a mall in Elliot Lake Ontario or landmark events like the last Canadian Astronaught to hitch a ride on a Space Shuttle LIVE from cape canaveral. Seeing a shuttle launch was a career highlight. CBC has recently hired me on as a Videographer like I was at cable 14 all these years ago. Shooting stories for the CBC Toronto Local news, segments for the National and other CBC current affair shows. It's challenging it's fun. We have a great team and its a joy to be a part of it. Everyday is different and I look forward to what lies ahead. Cheers.
