About
I am a retired highly commended professional police manager with over 30 years policing service and over 10 years specific experience in advocating and facilitating greater understanding of the issues of minority communities. I have long held an interest in teaching, having seen it as integral to my role. I have capitalised on every opportunity to expand my experience and have applied the research concepts and reflective practice of a Masters degree in work based learning, a BSc (Hons) in Community Development and a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, in many work based initiatives to improve the professional practice of my colleagues and management. I have also completed several Open College Network accredited courses including Global Education, Mediation, and various Community Facilitation and Diversity programmes. My role widely varied and included the implementation of various Justice Directives such as administering warning and advice, formal cautioning and restorative conferencing, dependent on legal requirement and service procedure. My duties concentrated on proactive approaches to safeguarding communities from hazardous behaviour and prevention of offending utilizing a combination of education, awareness, harm reduction and enforcement. This wider community policing role straddled practice and supervision at a localized and strategic level including the development of future crime reduction and management initiatives in partnership with other statutory and voluntary agencies. This led to my engagement with several influential community partners on various projects aimed at tackling these problems. In 2013/14 I acquired level 3 qualification in police Neighbourhood Management with the Chartered Management Institute, and then completed my Diploma in Front Line Leadership with the same organisation. I now work as an International Training Consultant for organisations such as the ICRC and OSCE training police officers and educating communities across Europe
