Rory Paterson

In my current role I regularly work alongside teachers, in schools assisting them to implement the RE curriculum. A large part of my work is teaching courses in Theology, Scripture and Religious Education on behalf of the Catholic Theological College, part of Te Kupenga to teachers across the Christchurch, West Coast and South Canterbury regions. Other professional development for teachers is also part of what I do, facilitating staff meetings in schools regularly. I am also a proprietor’s representative on the Catholic Cathedral College Board of Trustees, and I enjoy working strategically to improve the school. My time as a teacher includes several years leadership experience as a Deputy Principal (DP) and Director of Religious Studies (DRS) in a U3 school. In my time in education I have four years experience as a staff elected trustee on a joint board of trustees (for a primary school and a secondary school) and I've served on various subcommittees such as finance, administration and property. I have been responsible for reporting to the Board of Trustees on finance and the Religious Education and English Curriculum areas. Previously I have also been the lead teacher within my school for Health and Physical Education, Science and Technology. Prior to working in education I have several years experience working as a funeral director which gave me a keen sense of empathy and required good listening skills and flexibility.
