Ruth Amos (born 1989) was Young Engineer for Britain 2006, with her idea, The StairSteady. The StairSteady is an aid to enable people with limited mobility to use their stairs confidently and safely. The StairSteady was designed as part of her GCSE resistant materials project as a response to a teacher’s challenge to design an aid to enable people with limited mobility to use their stairs. She is a well known representative within STEM and an ambassador for a number of initiatives. She was the youngest person ever to appear on Management Today ’35 under 35’ list. She is a freeman in the Worshipful Company for Scientific Instrument Makers. Ruth was one of the 2016 curators of FutureFest, Nesta’s flagship innovation festival, held at the Tobacco Docks in London. Ruth is currently represented by Room54 ltd for her speaking. In 2015 she gave her first TedxTalk at Cambridge University. Ruth co-founded Kids Invent Stuff, an educational youtube channel bringing to life kids' invention ideas. Kids Invent Stuff(www.youtube.com/kidsinventstuff) is an educational project aimed at engaging more young people with STEM. They build and test working prototypes of inventions designed by 4-11 year olds, to engage and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Kids Invent Stuff has over 46k subscribers and has had over 1.8 million views, with projects featured on BBC's The One Show, Radio 5 Live, The Daily Show, Tomorrow’s World Live, BBC News Online and major US TV news outlets.
