Samantha Hoffman, P Eng

Samantha leads the TransAlta Wind Operations Engineering team. Her team responsible for the operation of TransAlta’s 2046 MW North Amercian Wind, Solar and Battery Storage fleet (1892 MW of Wind, 144 MW of Solar and 10 MW of Battery Storage capacity). She is the responsible member to APEGA for Wind Operations. She has over twelve years of diverse power systems experience and a proven track record of exceeding expectations through initiative, strong communication skills, effective problem solving and analytical abilities. This experience has included: • Operations: - Troubleshooting high voltage substation equipment failures in real time; - Completing root cause analysis on these failures; - Developing and implementing sustainable, cost-effective solutions to identified root causes; - Developing maintenance plans and supervising annual substation maintenance; - Taking accountability for a fleet's electrical engineering and substation maintenance budget. • Planning and Business Development: - Acting as project manager and lead study engineer to bring a substation upgrade through the AESO Connection Process; - Working with the AESO to optimize their long-term plan for transmission development in north western Calgary; - Developing new transmission projects for execution including a harmonic monitoring program and a large scale transmission redevelopment in north-west Calgary. • Detailed Design, Power System Studies and Project Management: - Detailed design for distribution, transmission and LRT substations including equipment replacements (breakers, relay upgrades, transformers, rectifiers, switchgear, etc.); - Project management for the above projects; - Power system studies and base case building for load flow and short circuit studies. She is licensed to practice in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Quebec.
