Hi, I’m Shanna. I began pursuing a PhD in 2020 with a focus on reproductive immunology, specifically focusing on how the immune system interacts with blood vessels in pregnancy to support fetal life. My work focuses on how this interaction contributes to the formation of the placenta, and therefore how it can contribute to pregnancy pathologies arising from placental insufficiency, like preeclampsia. I was lucky enough during my honours degree in 2019 to find a welcoming lab group, with work that excited and motivated me. I am a highly curious person who thrives in stressful situations and enjoys working collaboratively, so a PhD seemed like the correct path for me to take.
