I was wrong.I used to think I had to write what I thought needed to look like my resume in this section. Thinking that I needed validation I was an asset to my present or future employer.When written, the words sounded great – but felt empty. That’s not how I want to live my career, that’s not what drives me, and that’s certainly not how I want to be remembered. So, I looked in the mirror, thought about what has gotten me juiced in my career , & where I felt I really added value to the companies I have worked for.Simply put, I thrive on caring about making a difference in people’s lives.It can be as little as doing what I say I'm going to do, when I said I was going to do it. Or it can be as big a closing a company acquisition in half the time allotted because we had great stakeholders that all cared about getting a deal done.I derive almost the same pleasure from both examples. One, may be a little more tiring than the other though.My professional expertise is twofold: 1, working day-to-day with Investment Advisors ("IA's") and 2, working on executive management teams of companies who IA's work with.Working with IA's is simply fantastic. Give me 1,000 IA's, & I will give you 1,000 different ways to be successful. I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest IA teams in the country – constantly learning.Working in Management is equally rewarding. Trying to judge “where the puck is going” in the wealth management business has always been fascinating to me. The winds of change are constantly blowing in our business. Having your ear to the ground and being in the “trenches” with our IA's always derives the best results. The best management teams do this. I have been lucky – I worked with some amazing people that have lead by example.I try make the right choices – not the easy ones.I probably care too much vs. not enough.I view life as an adventure – not a war.Whatever doesn’t kill me – had better start running.
