Shaun Johnstone is an experimental physicist with 13.6 years of experience in optics, physics, experimental physics, data analysis, and science. Based in Australia, he is currently working with Kris Helmerson at Monash University, where he focuses on creating topological states and studying dissipation and equilibration in driven Floquet systems using ultracold atoms. He completed his PhD on "Quantum Turbulence in a Planar Bose-Einstein Condensate" and has also built a prototype apparatus for creating Bose-Einstein condensates. Shaun has also conducted experiments on the turbulent vortex dynamics in BECs confined within

About

I'm an experimental physicist working with Kris Helmerson at Monash University, within the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies (FLEET). My current research is focused on the creation of topological states and studying dissipation and equilibration in driven Floquet systems, using ultracold atoms. I completed my PhD on "Quantum Turbulence in a Planar Bose-Einstein Condensate" in 2018. During my PhD I helped to build from scratch an apparatus for creating Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs), and performed experiments studying the turbulent vortex dynamics in BECs confined within a uniform pancake-shaped trap.
