About

I am a board certified Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist, subspecialty trained in Pediatric Neuro-oncology, with an interest in translational clinical development of new therapies for brain tumors. As a pediatric oncologist trained at Johns Hopkins University and the National Cancer Institute and later at Emory University, I have had over 7 years of clinical research experience. From my very first day in fellowship I have been consenting patients, evaluating eligibility criteria, monitoring for toxicities and side effects in both first-in-human trials, as well as Phase 3 trials run through the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Now as a co-investigator on clinical trials and as an attending physician on the Pediatric Solid Tumor/Brain Tumor service, I continue to evaluate potential patients for trials, enroll them and monitor them throughout their intervention and follow-up. I work closely with the clinical research team, including other investigators, research nurses and coordinators, to review eligibility and to assess the patient’s ability to adhere to the schedule of activities and other trial requirements. I have extensive experience with the informed consent process, medical monitoring of active patients, assessment of response by RECIST 1.1 and other criteria, and adverse event management. I am also involved in evaluating and selecting new clinical trials for addition to our portfolio of trials based on areas of unmet medical need for our patient population. In addition, with my background in cell and molecular biology I investigate pathways that drive brain cancers with a focus on identifying novel potential targets. My past and current work includes microRNAs and their interaction with the transcriptome, testing in vitro and in vivo drug delivery models using nanoparticles, as well as characterizing the role of the LIN28 family of proteins in pediatric embryonal tumors. My vision is to work in a collaborative and supportive environment to gain insights into the mechanisms of cancer, help create better therapies and ultimately to improve the lives of patients.
