Simon Dawes

Simon has led the development and integration of a detailed Net Zero delivery plan for a complex, £1.3bn, 11,000 strong organisation. Simon is a senior sustainability leader, with over 20 years experience, covering all aspects from strategy development through to award winning delivery. Advisor at Board and CEO level, Simon’s experience stretches both public and private sector (FTSE 250) companies. He is currently the Head of Sustainable Business Strategy for the Environment Agency. Under his leadership he has developed an ambitious 10 year sustainability strategy. The Net Zero Strategy Simon developed, and has integrated into the business, is shortlisted as Strategy of the Year 2022 and Simon is shortlisted as Net Zero Leader of the Year 2022 (Edie). Simon has led business transformation and is experienced at driving culture change through rich employee engagement. Overseeing the development of a comprehensive Carbon Literacy training package for 11,000 staff, Simon is enabling innovation and delivery on sustainability at every level. Simon is Chair of the supplier community of practice and understands the commercial elements of the sustainability agenda. Simon represents the Environment Agency on the UK Task Force on Net Zero and as Sustainability Ambassador to the Major Projects Association. Out of work Simon is goal orientated and likes a challenge. He has climbed the tallest peaks in Europe (Mt.Blanc) and Africa (Kilimanjaro) as well as competing in triathlon at Olympic distance.
