Sydney Silberman

I am a committed professional who is deeply motivated by helping others and making steps towards a more equitable society in culturally responsive, validating, and empowering ways that allow for collaboration, skill-sharing, and community-building. I have 10+ years of formal and informal experience working with children. I completed a M.Ed in Community Development and Action at Vanderbilt University in May 2022. My Master’s thesis focused on the limitations of current sexual education policies and curricula, risk factors for sexual violence, and Social-Emotional learning as a viable and developmentally appropriate means to deliver principles of consent as a means of reducing sexual violence perpetration. Moreover, I had the privilege of co-authoring an 18-lesson curriculum with the AMEND Together team at the YWCA and created a post-lesson facilitator evaluation on cultural responsivity to ensure facilitators are reaching all students so they may see themselves in the lessons. I have been a volunteer with the Sexual Assault Center of Nashville since December 2019 where I accompany clients to hospitals and clinics to receive medical legal exams. I have 70+ hours of training on trauma-informed care, the neurobiology of trauma, racism in healthcare, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), motivational interviewing, and recognizing signs of abuse/mistreatment in adolescents and adults. I am Green Dot Bystander Intervention certified as well as CPR certified.
