Sze Chuen Lee

I have always been fascinated by what technology can do. A mechanical engineer by training, I started my career in a global top 10 bank, where I spent most of my time improving cost efficiency via automation and digitisation technologies such as RPA/IPA. The experience provided me great insights into how the financial world functions - all the people, process and technology that work in the background like clockwork to keep the financial system going. I worked with colleagues all over the globe across multiple time zones to deliver on automation, improvement and digitisation projects, where I had the chance to improve my problem-solving, interpersonal and collaboration skills. Equipped with the 'insider lens' I gathered during my time with the bank, I now provide consulting services on digital banking and transformation at a global Big 4 consulting firm, with a specific focus on the Southeast Asia financial services landscape (which comes with a unique set of challenges), helping to drive forward the digital agenda in the region. While this role helps me to further develop soft skills such as leadership, communication and stakeholder management, it is the technologies like cloud, automation, AI/ML, data analytics and API integrations, and what they can do for the financial industry, that really drew me in. I'd like to think that I have the best seat in the house as we witness the financial services transformation unfold across SEA, both for incumbent banks and fintech challengers. Outside of work, I enjoy sports, gaming, coffee and a good single malt scotch (preferably old enough to order its own whisky).
