Tanya Gill

Tanya Gill is a professional visual artist. Her studio practice involves working with ideas around societal constructs, collapse, and mending. In addition to her studio practice, Gill is an arts educator and a cultural advocate. Gill has traveled frequently to Northern India since 2005, researching and connecting with India’s dynamic art world. In 2012 she was in New Delhi, India, researching the intersection of Craft and Contemporary Art as a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar. In addition to the Fulbright-Nehru, Gill has been a fellow at McDowell Artists Colony, an Artist in Residence at Haystack Mountain School of Craft, an Artist in Residence at The Ragdale Foundation, an Affiliate at Headlands Center for the Arts and a recipient of the Individual Artist Grant from the Marin Arts Council. Tanya Gill is a devoted teacher of visual art. She has taught at the California State University of Sacramento, California; Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia; and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Contemporary Practices Department. In 1997 she received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and in 1992 her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently Gill holds a Community Studio at The Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, Il.
