I am a professor of creative nonfiction at DePaul University's Master of Arts in Writing and Publishing program. I'm the author of four books and co-editor of a fourth. My most recent book was Planet of Microbes, published by University of Chicago Press in 2017. Previous to that was The Longevity Seekers: Science, Business and the Fountain of Youth (University of Chicago Press, 2013). I teach science, magazine and essay writing as well as courses in the American literature and literary journalism. I've written for periodicals such as The Sciences, Slate, Publishers Weeks, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago magazine.
