Thomas Bond

I take an arts and humanities approach to my interactions in life and in the workplace. I seek a career where I can help mobilize people to take an active role in their own lives and in their expression. My undergraduate work combined psychology, dance, and race studies. Dance is the discourse I love most, but I believe that an interdisciplinary and humanistic approach to my career is important. I am attending New York University in pursuit of a Master of Arts in performance studies. Here, I am immersed in methodological and pedagogical approaches to performance, with a particular focus on dance. I pursue employment in fields like arts outreach and education, where dance intersects dancers with non-dancers. My current work focuses on the dance scene of Detroit, MIchigan, which I am investigating in terms of how dance attends to Detroiters, rather than being tithed to the weekend support of suburbanites. I hope that my investigation will elevate my understanding of how post-industrial communities reclaim their identity in this increasingly post-industrial nationhood. Dance is one method of valuing a new identity politic.
