My work is focused on scenario planning. I develop systems to provoke new insights and connect decision maker mental models to complex and uncertain environments. I have worked with a variety of companies using scenarios to reframe how the future could play out and develop resilient plans in rapidly changing environments. My approach is based on Pierre Wack's original thinking developed at Shell, and is documented in my book "Scenario Planning in Organizations" published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. I am also a researcher, focused on generating new knowledge about the effects and outcomes of scenario planning. I teach courses in scenario planning and organizational change at Colorado State University, where I am also the Director of the Scenario Planning Institute.
