Thomas Murray

Hello my name is Thomas Murray i am qualified Electrician starting a new career in the IT sector as a computer programmer. I am currently in my first year of studying for my computing degree at IT Tallaght. I started serving my time as an electrical apprentice in 1995 and worked in the industry till late 2010. The sector i studied and worked in was the control and distribution sector, this section of the industry concerns itself with the more complicated side of electricity. As my training was more specialised I was fortunate to work on many large projects either as it's project manager or as a team member. My time as an electrical taught me a lot about technology and fed my interest to know more. It was this that led me to take a strong interest in the IT sector so in mid 2011 I signed up for a course to become a computer technician. I started my introduction to computers at the level of hardware, as i believe that to understand a topic properly you need to know every side equally. I studied computer architecture and networking earning distinctions in both subjects and others. During my time studying for my certificate I volunteered a day a week repairing computers for the charity Camara and shipping them off to Kenya. Upon completion of my course i felt i was ready to study for my degree in software development so i applied to IT Tallaght.
