Thomas Selden

In 2016, I celebrated my 25th year since first becoming a hospital and hospital system CEO, including Parma Community Hospital, The Meridia Health System, and most recently service as CEO for Southwest General Health System from 2007 to 2016. In addition to leading fiscally sound organizations, greatest pride comes from being associated with organizations where quality of care always came first. Quality of care outcomes at each of those organizations consistently rated as among the tops in the nation, during my tenure at each, as measured by rating organizations including HealthGrades and others. I have been pleased to serve voluntarily in related healthcare organizations, such as the Center for Health Affairs (Cleveland) and The Ohio Hospital Association (chairman of the Board 2013-14). I was most honored to receive the Ohio Hospital Association"s highest honor for a health system CEO, when I received the Donald Newark Award for Lifetime Achievement to the health care community, awarded to one recipient each year. Prior experience before entering health care industry was with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, first as an engineer, later as strategic planning analyst and finally as a product manager in the marketing division. Military experience, including both active duty and Army Reserve service, for 23 years and hold the retired rank of Lieutenant Colonel, included service as the Commander of an Army Reserve Hospital. I also earned the distinction as a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.
