Being service oriented, my recent role as a first responder with Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (CVFRD) in Chugiak, Alaska allowed me to develop critical leadership skills and reinforced personal values of community, teamwork, loyalty, and self-discipline. A member with CVFRD since 2015, I acquired the education and skills necessary for national and state certifications as a Firefighter 2 and EMT 1, among others, allowing me to successfully perform required duties in a variety of emergency situations involving both fire suppression and emergency medical services (EMS), primarily during overnight and weekend shifts during 12-hour rotations. Being a communications professional for more than 25 years, I have a wide range of experience in corporate/executive communications, website development, publishing, creative/art direction, and commercial print production/prepress processes and technologies. Having spent a career immersed in the intricacies of effective communication, user-experience, and information navigation, I hold mastery in all aspects of the editorial presentation and the confluence of the written word, photography, and graphics as related to information architecture. I have been involved with more than five major newspaper and magazine redesigns, including two national magazine overhauls. Most recently as a marketing and comms manager and specialist for a large tribal non-profit in Anchorage, I implement a variety of strategies through best practices regarding communications, marketing, and related deliverables, including design/graphics, brand development/management, website production and maintenance, public/media/staff engagement, writing, editing/proofreading, and project management. I've earned industry-wide recognition, both independently and as part of a team, for achievements in writing, informational graphics, and design from several prestigious organizations, including the Society for News Design, the Associated Press Sports Editors Awards, and the Society for Professional Journalists. In 2000, my passion for outdoor beauty and recreation eventually led to a relocation to the far north where I continue a pursuit of communications excellence, while balancing an active, outdoor-oriented lifestyle. ###
