I did my SAICA articles with EY from 2017 to 2019 and stayed on as an Assistant Audit Manager until November 2021 when I joined Makosi SA as a senior Audit consultant. I the returned to EY in June 2022 as an Audit Manager in Energy and Natural Resource sector. I have worked on listed, unlisted, local and multinational clients in the Financial Services, Retail, Energy, Construction, Mineral Equipment Production, Oil and Gas sectors over the three years of my articles, and ever since moving into the Assistant Audit manager at EY, I have had my portfolio of clients focused on Mineral Equipment Production, Oil and Gas sectors. Makosi seconded me to a big 4 audit firm based in the US and worked on audits of some private companies operating mainly in the automotive industry. Moving back to EY as Manager, I focused more on clients operating in the mining industry. Working as an auditor grants me exposure and opportunities to keep abreast with developments in the corporate world, more so in the financial reporting and operations of the clients and customers in the sectors I am working on. Also the opportunity I had to work for Makosi, helped me add on the experience I had on international markets. My duties as an auditor entails audit/review of financial statements, review and testing of internal processes and controls (including risk identification and mitigation), review of statutory requirements and compliance, review of the clients’ processes and providing recommendations for improvements were necessary.
