Veera Haapaniemi

I’m currently studying my second year in the Atmospheric Sciences Master's Programme at University of Helsinki. I'm pursuing my studies in the Geophysics of the Hydrosphere study track, combining oceanography, data science and hydrology into my degree. I completed my Bachelor's degree in 2021 from theoretical physics. In my BSc thesis, I presented a numerical model for heat transfers connected in series. Writing my thesis got me interested in numerical modelling and fluid dynamics, and I'm keen to work with related topics also in the future. Background in theoretical physics has provided me various tools for mathematical and computational problem solving and also broad understanding of different fields and applications of physics. My work experience consists of heat transfer modelling, documenting the computational algorithms and utilizing my knowledge of Python and Fortran in the role of Nuclear Safety Trainee. I’m confident in using both Linux and Windows environments. From my studies, I've also become familiar with Matlab and R. I’m a quick and enthusiastic learner, who is always open to new challenges. I've previously worked as a waitress, courier, care assistant and a tutor in several different commissions, and my friends and colleagues would describe me as a determined and compassionate person. Along with my studies I enjoy spending my time with art, developing vegan recipes and photographing nature. Art in various forms has been my passion from a young age, including literature, writing and painting. Transforming my own observations, ideas and work into something that can be useful for others is what inspires me the most and keeps me going.
