In my career, I’ve been able to set up the OD and learning function in organizations, both as an external and as an internal OD practitioner. Having worked in many smaller organizations (under 1000 employees), I was given the opportunity to develop my HR generalist skills alongside my “day job.” I found the intersection of those two worlds and used my skills to work with companies to define organizational, departmental, and / or individual competencies as well as help them design interview processes aligned with those competencies. And out of all those experiences, came a competency-based behavioral interviewing book, a second book and multiple articles. I've spearheaded the improvement in performance management, established talent assessment and succession planning processes, coached leaders and facilitated team building. That is the tip of the iceberg. Professionally, I don’t need to shine; I don’t need to be the one getting the credit for “fixing” a person, a team, or a situation. My greatest joy is when I help people be successful and they proudly stand up and take full credit for their accomplishment. That’s as it should be. I helped, I gave them the tools, I held up the mirror – but they did the hard work. I’m one of the lucky people in life because I love what I do.
