Victor Cook

Taking a bit of time out to reflect on my career and what I excel at I have realised it is not easy to define. I’ve been fortunate to work with great people and on technology at the cutting edge. I’ve built and led teams developing innovative technologies and systems; using ASIC, FPGA and firmware. Always an eye to the detail, but not forgoing abstraction where it helps the process. Above all else what drives me is the need to “get the job done right”. If you had asked me back in 2007 where my career path lay, I would have said continuing in digital design engineering. A bug in a design (not mine;), has flipped that around and over the course of a few years I have learnt the nuances of embedded linux systems. Now coding in C and C++ rather than System Verilog, VHDL and e. Swapping out simulation and DFT for gcc and gdb. I continue to bring all my skills, knowledge and new learning to solve difficult problems and with the right opportunity lead others in the quest to make better things. Most recently, a member of a team designing computing over-IP systems. Previously, a design group leader developing ICs for network processing and digital radio products.
