About

From preparing the economy of cities for autonomous and electric vehicles to estimating the social benefits of cycling, walking and urban design, solving economic problems concerning the built environment is in my DNA. Putting a value on important aspects of our lives in cities can help balance out the positive and negative aspects of cities (public amenities on one side and congestion and pollution on the other side) and thus get closer to creating the sustainable and liveable cities that most cities want to be while improving the economy. In my thesis, I researched the question of how going from a car tax to a gas tax will affect house the choice of where people live holding tax revenue constant and found that gas taxes might be more effective in reducing urban sprawl than registration taxes. I also empirically estimated a significant negative effect of car ownership on urban population density. This last part is expected to be published in a scientific journal in collaboration with Vrije Unversiteit Amsterdam.
