Victoria Eggleston

I graduated from Northumbria University in 2018 with a First Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering Since embarking on this degree I have gained knowledge of the key areas in Civil Engineering. I am a member of the ICE, IStructE and CIHT and regularly attend events held around my local area. These events have given me the opportunity to meet a range of different people in the profession and given me a glimpse of what projects I could be involved with in the near future.Upon completion of a summer placement with Sir Robert McAlpine I was awarded sponsorship and a job as a Graduate Engineer on site in Manchester. This allowed me to gain a true understanding of construction techniques and apply what I learned at university to real life situations. My experience on site made me realise how passionate I was about the design aspect of the construction industry which prompted me to progress my career in design. I accepted a job as a Graduate Design Engineer with Arcadis in July 2019 and have been working as part of the Bridges Team within the Rail office since.My biggest and most realistic ambition for now is to take the opportunity to work on exciting, new and relevant projects with a wide range of different people. With this experience I hope to achieve professional chartered status with the ICE, helping me to become a well-rounded and well respected engineer.
