About

The Energy Materials Group is a dynamic, fast-paced, and motivated team of researchers dedicated to developing energy materials for a sustainable future. Our mission is to research and develop new materials that can be used in energy storage, water treatment, and ion recovery applications. Our research approach is holistic, covering all aspects of electroactive materials from synthesis and application to recycling. Our projects cover a wide range of topics, including energy storage (supercapacitors, redox electrolytes, batteries), water treatment (desalination, heavy metal removal), and tailored ion recovery (especially Lithium extraction). We use a variety of materials in our research, including carbon materials, layered materials (such as MXene), Prussian blue analogs, and hybrid nanomaterials with tunable structure, composition, and electrochemical properties. Our group is composed of three pillars, our central laboratories are located at the INM - Leibniz Institute for New Materials, which is a member of the Leibniz Association. The INM offers an outstanding infrastructure for research, self-development, and various possibilities for synthesis and characterization methods. We also work on scale-up and technology transfer with the InnovationCenter INM. We maintain a laboratory dedicated to material synthesis at Saarland University, in close collaboration with the Chemistry Department. Finally, we are part of Saarene, the Saarland Center for Energy Materials and Sustainability, which brings together research activities all over Saarland Campus related to our vision of a sustainable future. Our collaboration with industry and other pioneer researchers across the globe is also a major strength of our group. We are always looking for like-minded individuals who are passionate about exploring the edge of science and want to be part of our team. If you are interested in joining our group, we encourage you to take a look at our open positions and apply. We are excited to have new members who share our vision and are ready to work together to achieve it.
