About

I am a nephrologist (kidney doctor) with strong interest and experience in healthcare informatics, computer programming, and system design. I am committed to improving healthcare delivery through medical research. I studied medicine in Sudan. I then specialized in nephrology and internal medicine in Ireland through a highly competitive program that is internationally recognized. I subsequently joined the Stanford nephrology fellowship program in 2012. Afterwards, I moved back to Ireland, where I practiced nephrology at a number of university hospitals. I eventually joined Satellite Healthcare in 2018 as Director of research, then Senior Director, VP, and most recently, CMO of R&D. I am also a programmer at core. I use my skills to design, build and run healthcare technology that is effective, efficient, and scalable. I developed several programs for healthcare organizations and other industries. I previously worked as chief of IT at Daimler Chrysler in Sudan. In the nephrology domain, I published the first national Irish studies using data from the national renal electronic platform. At Satellite Healthcare, I developed the NHSN infection reporting verification system during my fellowship years in 2013/14. This program is still in use at Satellite, cutting the time needed for reporting verification from weeks to several hours. More recently, I developed the COVID tracking and patient management, which was used for the first several months of the pandemic, and I helped with transitioning the system to the formal EHR. I published on the use of mHealth in dialysis in a leading nephrology journal. I led the implementation of telehealth in the organization in the early days of the pandemic. I also led the team developing machine learning algorithms to identify patients at high risk of PD technique failure and those at risk of fluid-related hospitalizations. My guiding principle is to do right by patients and their families and communities. What we do touches real people, who have hopes and dreams. We play a part in their lives. We have to do it right. Research can pave the way to making life better for those we serve!
