William Kirtland, CPA

William Kirtland joined The Children's Trust in February 2014 and has been a finance professional since 2009, obtaining experience in public accounting, financial & forensic audits, and financial operations & management. Since 2013, Mr. Kirtland has been a registered certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of Florida. Before arriving to The Trust, he gained valuable experience auditing and consulting with a wide range of organizations in the Miami-Dade, Broward, West Palm Beach and Monroe counties, including numerous nonprofit organizations – many of which are currently, or have previously been Trust-funded service providers. At his previous employer, Verdeja & De Armas LLP, Mr. Kirtland specialized in the performance of Children’s Trust program-specific audits, as well as other Federal OMB Circular A-133 audits and State Single audits. Mr. Kirtland was initially hired at The Trust as finance director, primarily charged with provider fiscal oversight and supporting services. In 2016, he was promoted to Chief Financial Officer, overseeing all financial operations of The Trust. He is also an associate member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA).He has been a longtime resident of Miami-Dade County, graduating from Westminster Christian High School in Palmetto Bay. In 2008, Mr. Kirtland earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. While attending, was Treasurer of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, as well as a varsity athlete for the university's track & field team. Mr. Kirtland later went on to earn a Masters in Science in Accounting from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
