I work as a news editor for LinkedIn News Africa. My role involves discovering and summarising a mix of news and trends while curating the right voices for each story, putting strong emphasis on topics that professionals need to know about now and that spark great conversations. In this job I use my skills as a strong, fast and accurate editor with a knack for snappy writing and an eye for spotting and highlighting high-quality shares from LinkedIn members. I take complex information and communicate it clearly, concisely and correctly. Each day I follow and look out for the kind of topics that ignite professional conversations. My responsibilities include: ● Curating the best conversations on the platform. ● Writing concise and eye-catching news roundups and headlines for the LinkedIn News Africa Daily Rundown. ● Proofreading editorial copy to check spelling and grammar. ● Keeping up-to-date with trending news, while monitoring the impact of my own work. ● Collaborating with LinkedIn News editors around the world on coordinated global projects. I was previously an associate business editor and before that a senior journalist and social media lead for the BBC News business. I managed all of the unit's social channels including the BBC News LinkedIn page, developing a strategy to help them grow and deliver stories to audiences who usually wouldn't think to come to its content for news. Before joining the business desk and social team in 2019, I was a journalist at BBC Newsnight, producing on-the-day news packages, briefing presenters such as Emily Maitlis, guestbooking, and helping with social media in the crucial moments before and after the programme. Before Newsnight I honed my financial journalism at an insurance trade magazine The Insurance Insider.
