Winne Lai

Continuing on from my undergraduate double major in Psychology at the University of Western Australia, I am currently studying a Masters degree at the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors to provide me with further opportunities to expand and utilise the skills I have gained so far. I completed a 10-week internship with a Clinical Psychology Centre, Healthfocus and had the opportunity to work with young children with autism spectrum disorder and behavioural issues. During the 10-week internship, I observed treatment sessions that combined play therapy, strength-based parenting and cognitive behaviour therapy. As a multi-lingual speaker in English and Mandarin, I am not only able to communicate efficiently with individuals but also understand their needs and values. Respect, courtesy and empathy for others are qualities that enable me to ensure I am able to conduct friendly rapport. I am often described as an active listener in which I believe is the key foundation for trust and for practical communication skills. My aspirations for my career path is to work in an area of passion that highlights my strengths. I genuinely believe in giving back to the community and being involved in the movement for making meaningful changes to people's lives.
