Yan Ling Cheah

The world is ever-changing and the expectations of work are moving away from the traditional mindsets. I collaborate with various stakeholders (ie. Employers, students, universities) and help students in their first foray into the working world. Ultimately, I would like to help them achieve a happy and fulfilling life. I joined National Environment Agency (NEA), a statutory board under the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, as an engineer, in 2014. I administered and evaluated grants to industrial companies for energy efficiency projects. I had ample opportunities to work with the various stakeholders (e.g. Companies, government agencies, organisations) and to learn about industrial systems such as chilled water systems, chemical engineering and related processes in the energy industry. I participated in organising national level conferences and worked on proposals, protocols and procedures for a new incentive scheme. I have research experience in energy storage such as Lithium ion batteries and photovoltaics, focusing mainly on chemical synthesis and electrochemistry. I enjoyed working with the various academic and commercial institutions and companies. Other than that, I was responsible for the running and maintenance of equipment for the laboratory, as well as training new members of the laboratory. The application of grants and procurement of laboratory equipment were a major part of the job.
