Yehuda Hyman is a playwright and dancemaker. He was born in Los Angeles to immigrant parents from Poland and Turkey. He traveled to Brussels, Belgium at age 16 to attend Maurice Bejart's school, MUDRA. Mr. Hyman's plays include The Mad Dancers, David in Shadow and Light (co-written with Daniel Hoffman), Center of the Star, Swan Lake Calhoun, I Ask You, Ladies and Gentlemen (adapted from the memoir by Leon Surmelian) and Max, Rapunzel and the Night. His work has been produced at the McCarter Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theater, Theatre J, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Beast Theater, and the Mark Taper Forum. Honors include the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Award, Heideman Award, grants from the Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity, Foundation for Jewish Culture, Jerome Fellowship/Playwrights' Center of Minneapolis and an National Endowment of the Arts /TCG Playwright-in-Residence grant (Cornerstone Theater of Los Angeles). Poetry and prose published in the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Northern California Jewish Bulletin, Minnesota Monthly, Recours au Poème and Seeing Jewish and Israeli Dance (Wayne State University Press). He has acted in NYC with Target Margin Theater and The Civilians. BA in Interdisciplinary Performance/Empire State College, SUNY. MFA in Dance/Sarah Lawrence College. Guest teacher at Princeton University, USC, NYU and Whittier College. He is the Artistic Director of Yehuda Hyman/Mystical Feet Company. His new work, THE MAR VISTA was developed at LABA/Theater at the 14th Street Y. THE MAR VISTA will have a new production at the Pershing Square Signature Center - March 3-24, 2019. He recently choreographed Paula Vogel's award-winning play, "Indecent" at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis (in it's first post-Broadway production), directed by Wendy C. Goldberg.
