Yen Nguyen

I am a graduate of University of Washington with a concentration in Biology and Neuroscience. At UW, I focused my academic coursework in stem cells, brain and behavior, and investigative biology. I am particularly interested in research and have worked on an incredible project investigating salmincola californiensis in salmon and observing the infection rates among various lakes and streams. I led this Salmincola Research independently and developed protocol for parasite extraction and data collection. As curious and passionate I am about the sciences and research, I have a passion for giving back to the community and serving as an advocate for underserved communities. I have led a Campus Access Project with Dr. Maureen West to assess how accessible and compliant the buildings and resources were on the UW Campus and start conversations with students, faculty, and staff on the importance of accessibility. I worked as a member of WASILC in helping to advocate, evaluate, and share resources for all individuals with disabilities to promote independent living. Ultimately, I intend to apply all my knowledge in the sciences and passion for helping others to pursue a medical degree where I can continue to be a positive influence and advocate for others.
