2020 brings 40 years in the field of Transfusion Medicine. I have both Blood Donor Center - collections including allogeneic, autologous, directed to therapeutic procedures - whole blood & apheresis through testing & final product labeling and release & look back, and Transfusion Service - support for the institution as well as the VA, small reference lab supporting the Pacific Rim, mercy & humanitarian mission, etc. Experience. I serve as a consultant to not only the Pathologists but also the licensed independent providers & nurses within the institution, other military institutions and external communities. I am an AABB Assessor in Transfusion Medicine & IRL. I am intimately involved with our Perioperative Department, having crafted their SOPs & ensure they meet regulatory requirements. Blood Banking takes a special person that's detailed oriented, focused, has an inner drive that finds satisfaction in knowing you've helped a patient receive their treatment as soon as possible ensuring safety, purity & potency of the processes & products & blocking out all of the 'complaints'. I'm a solutions person. We live in a time when there are 4 generations working together making communication difficult at times. Understanding the uniqueness of each generation helps communication problems disappear & allows each generation to embrace the differences. Instead of getting upset we do a quick rewind to see what we've missed that caused this miscommunication to occur which usually returns to the generational uniqueness. Once we can overcome this obstacle, the collaboration between staff members has no boundaries when tackling a problem. Arbinger's outward mindset drives behavior & behavior drives results! Teaching the 'whys' is key to remembering!
