I love building and seeing software ecosystems come to life for some or the other benefit and that has and always will be at the core of my career as a "techie". As of late... I’ve been working with establishing microservices as an application architecture approach with a roadmap for adoption, execution and governance. I’ve built several Java microservices prototypes with REST APIs and JSON and that use MicroProfile or Spring Boot as microservices frameworks and embedded WebSphere Liberty as the runtime while integrating with Kafka endpoints on Azure Integration Services and most recently Quarkus with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration - all very interesting and with a view to modernizing some of our existing legacy SOA systems (large distributed Java EE applications that expose SOAP services implemented as stateless session EJBs and that integrate with MQ and an ESB) and with developing new applications as microservices for the cloud and on-prem. In addition to the above, necessity over the last three years has seen me switch between the roles of application architect and developer with stints as a full stack developer on projects in difficulty with capacity or skillsets around integration development to more recently extending/integrating/customizing off the shelf systems like SAP BOE with Java.
