Zaynah Parveen

Mental health. A word that has megalithic oppressive severity to it and one that many disregard and become oblivious to. For as long as I can remember I have always been copiously fascinated with the workings and the complexity of the human brain, this has solidified my decision in having a career in the field of psychology. This is greater than just an interest, as this is what my passion lies into which is to live a life of use to others, this will be my opportunity to achieve this life goal. Counselling, amongst so many fields, gives you the ability to have one on one private conversations with a client, helping them grow and have that great privilege and opportunity to be a part of their journey to health. As a young Pakistani woman I have felt first hand the depth of disregard for mental health within the asian community. My desire is not only to remove this stigma attached to this completely and raise awareness within my community but also to implement and produce more mental health facilities that represent demographics like mine and other ethnic minorities. I also love podcasts and anything that builds to my knowledge and feeds my mind and soul. This can be supported by many of my academic achievements such as one of my short stories that was published in a book and many articles and journals of mine for the school paper.
