About

As an Associate Professor in the Department of History (Zhuhai) at Sun Yat-sen University, I received my PhD in History of Chinese Art from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018. My research interests focus on the material culture and decorative arts of late imperial China (Ming-Qing dynasties), Chinese lacquer (13th - 19th centuries), history of collecting in the Qing court, Buddhist and Daoist visual culture, artistic and cultural interactions between East and West. My current research encompasses two book projects with a focus on the material culture (production, circulation, display) of carved lacquer in the Ming and Qing courts, the dynamic transformation and afterlife of the Qing imperial collection within and outside the Forbidden City in the 20th century, respectively. I have published a dozen academic articles and book reviews in peer-reviewed or internationally recognized journals, including Arts of Asia, Taida Journal of Art History, National Palace Museum Research Quarterly and Monthly, among others. In addition to contributing to curatorial research, writing and editorial works of two important exhibition and catalogue projects—Jewels of Transcendence: Himalayan and Mongolian Treasures, and The Dragon and the Eagle: American Traders in China—at the Art Museum of CUHK and HKMM respectively, I am the Chinese translator of Dorothy Ko's new monograph—The Social Life of Inkstones: Artisans and Scholars in Early Qing China (book manuscript to be published by the Commercial Press in Beijing).
