Iris has 20 years experience in advising education development in both Asia (Vietnam and Cambodia) and Africa (Rwanda and Mozambique) through planning and managing programmes and projects as well as through advising budget support. The programmes that Iris has been engaging in promoted access to and quality of basic education through a range of strategies including expansion of school and WASH infrastructure (Cambodia, Rwanda), conditional cash transfers for vulnerable girls (Cambodia), and a range of quality reforms such as teacher development and innovations in teaching methodology (Vietnam in particular), decentralized provision of learning and teaching materials (Rwanda), learning achievement testing (Rwanda), promotion of reading and early literacy and numeracy (Rwanda, Cambodia), and comprehensive curriculum review (Rwanda). Iris has recently moved to Mozambique to head the education section of the UNICEF country office.
