I have recently passed my MSc in Microbiology with distinction. Where I gained major skills on research which could be either experimental of field based research. I have gained data collection and analysis skills using programmes such as SPSS. I have also worked closely with undergraduate students during their experiments. Prepared reagents, supervised students on their mini-research project. Marking of report and test, also lectured part-time as part of gaining teaching experience. I have recently published four manuscripts under the DHET accredited journals. Much of my work experience have been in the laboratory sector and field work since I have been a researcher for my entire academic period. I have worked as a student demonstrator and a tutor under the department of Biochemistry within UKZN for period of 3 years. I have also gained much experience in working in the laboratory environment as I have been employed by UKZN as the Ad-Hoc Technician at Biology Department for a period of three months, and I have undertaken Laboratory Assistant Technician position at UKZN at Medical Microbiology department for period of 1 year. My duties included assisting lecturers and students during Biology practical’s, sourcing and maintenance of materials, laboratory maintenance and preparation of chemicals, setting up of equipment, and conducting experimental research. As the Laboratory Assistant Technician at UKZN my duties included recruiting patients with helminths infections from town ships and conduct questionnaire study and collect blood samples for the, HIV, PCR, DNA and RNA analysis. I have also worked with data collected from patients and coded their 24-hour food recall, also captured and analysed data collected.
