Work in my laboratory spans a wide range of organic synthetic projects. Projects revolve around three themes: heterocyclic chemistry, development of new dyes, and modification of fabrics and colorant to produce multifunctional textiles. • In heterocyclic chemistry projects, we have been able to synthesize hundreds of biologically active organic compounds and dyes and modify several important chemical reactions. The most prominent achievements in this field was the synthesis of new heterocyclic compounds containing the 1,10-phenanthrolin moiety for chelation with d-block metals with potential application as photosensitizers for solar energy conversion devices. • Also, a facile synthesis of tetralkylesubstituted pyrazines that recognized as the components of trail laying or alarm pheromones in various species of ants.• In the last 15 years, my laboratory is interested in synthesis of new functional dyes as well as modification of fabrics and/or colorants to produce multifunctional textiles.• In this aspect, we have introduced to the market several new dyes which have antibacterial activity; also, we have succeeded in producing several modified fabrics that have multifunctional properties using irradiation techniques as well as metal nanoparticles.• Currently, my group is specialized in dyeing & finishing of textiles under supercritical carbon dioxide medium and we are the only group in the Middle East working with this technology, also we established the international joint China-Egypt supercritical dyeing in 2018.
