Even though my job title is Auditor, I feel my job entails much more than providing opinions on financial statements and ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards (although obviously this is a critical part of what I do!). Within the public sector, audit takes on an additional role encompassing financial sustainability, governance and transparency and value for money. I have focused on building an open relationship with my clients to develop a collaborative approach to improving the quality of the financial statements and adding value as part of the audit process. Having worked in the public sector and with charitable trusts for over 10 years, across a wide range of clients, I have developed a keen interest in the sector and have used this to provide meaningful advice and messages to my clients. I have valued my time working in the public sector as if feel it plays a key role in society and audit is key to the guardianship of the public purse.
